For environmental protection, the essential landfill component is the primary or bottom liner. The liner effectively creates a barrier to the ground. A bottom liner may be one or more layers of synthetic flexible membranes (or a combination of these.) Many landfills require a leak detection system to ensure the integrity of the liner on a continuous basis. The use of geonets directly below the primary liner or geocomposite nets on an intermediate soil layer can be effective. |
